Slow performance on CentOS 8

PHP process occupies a full core per user, page takes about 20 seconds to load. About 400 000 files in directory tree, about 35 000 folders.

I'm having a similar issue even with less than 20 files and folders present. I've also turned off foldersize, which didn't seem to help either.
