[DISCUSSION] reqwest vs curl vs wget?

Open benjamin051000 opened this issue 10 months ago • 2 comments

There are currently three choices for downloading data: reqwest, curl, and wget.

Why are there multiple options for downloading?

Is there any benefit to using curl or wget over reqwest? Should we keep all three? Or should we consider deprecating some of these to simplify the codebase?

If I remember correctly those were introduced by someone else. I don't remember the reason for that anymore, I didn't question that too much tough and thought there was a reason for that from a more nerdy Linux perspective than mine. ;) So good point, we could remove the alternative downloading methods.

I personally think that we should just use reqwest. It feels a bit hacky to be shelling out to an external process and I don't see what the advantage would be
