Hi there, that's a bug I've never seen before! :D Did you have an internet connection when you opened Arnis? Also, are you from Russia by any chance? There might be some connections blocked. Sadly can't open the attached log file

louis-e avatar Jan 12 '25 20:01 louis-e

Yeah I had a internet connection when I tried and no I'm not from Russia, I'm from Italy, should it work fine here? Also, I looked inside the logs and there is nothing written in there so idk

I have the same thing, but it could be because i was trying to do a nix build

I'm in Australia.

I'll still have a look at what it might be for my context like an error on my behalf, but i'm not super sure where to look.

I also have the same thing and I'm from Finland. I'm using Windows 10 Pro.

Here's the picture. kuva

Version 2.1.2 has the same problem, I thought going back one version could fix for whatever reason but nope.

I solved the problem on my end. It was a Pi-hole blocking problem. All I had to do was allow a.tiles.mapbox.com and the map appears!

Killekon avatar Jan 14 '25 11:01 Killekon

So whitelist a.tiles.mapbox.com on firewall you're saying?

Well, Pi-hole is Network-wide ad blocker and DNS sinkhole, so it blocks unwanted addresses. The mentioned address was blocked by my adlist, but after allowing it, it works.

@sammypanda Can you add the devtools feature for tauri inside the Cargo.toml (so that developer tools is enabled because it isn't in release mode), press Ctrl+Shift+I (or right click and then Inspect element) inside the Tauri window and check the network or console tab to see if there's anything wrong there?

That's a great idea! @TheComputerGuy96

Here is what it looks like: image

[Error] Failed to load resource: TLS support is not available (3, line 0) https://a.tiles.mapbox.com/styles/v1/mapbox/streets-v11/tiles/3/4/3?access_token=pk.eyJ1IjoiY3Vnb3MiLCJhIjoiY2p4Nm43MzA3MDFmZDQwcGxsMjB4Z3hnNiJ9.SQbnMASwdqZe6G4n6OMvVw

I fixed it by adding to the build/installing glib-networking

where the error is from: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/blob/f7d2a58be64282dd5525ee3c92678b8309e9cc62/gio/gdummytlsbackend.c#L196-197

i fixed for the nixos flake here: https://github.com/sammypanda/nixos-arnis/commit/bb4fac3d9a096547336bde642e28b41df41045ad

So far we have 2 different causes of this issue:

  1. Pi-hole blocking the https://a.tiles.mapbox.com domain (it's unknown what blocklist causes this issue)

  2. Missing glib-networking dependency for libsoup3 which WebKit(GTK) on Linux uses (the AUR package is unaffected because it already has correct dependencies)

@ZodiacFoxtrot Can you open the URL above in a web browser and see if it works?

TheComputerGuy96 avatar Jan 15 '25 08:01 TheComputerGuy96

@TheComputerGuy96 This is what I see when I open it in my browser image

ZodiacFoxtrot avatar Jan 15 '25 14:01 ZodiacFoxtrot

@ZodiacFoxtrot So your particular problem doesn't seem to be caused by the tile server

Can you download this test build of Arnis with devtools enabled, run it, press Ctrl+Shift+I and then go to the console tab?: https://github.com/TheComputerGuy96/arnis/actions/runs/12791012343/artifacts/2435185004

@TheComputerGuy96 Here it is, damn there are quite some errors actually image

ZodiacFoxtrot avatar Jan 15 '25 16:01 ZodiacFoxtrot

Hmm :( it looks like it can't connect to something.

Unless ComputerGuy already knows what the issue might be, you could try the classic things. Like disabling firewall or disabling VPN services or disabling Intel Connectivity Network Service or disabling IPv6 or (like the Pi-hole thing) setting DNS to just 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 @ZodiacFoxtrot

Other than those, I'm not sure. But, if one of those works that would help narrow down where the problem is.

sammypanda avatar Jan 16 '25 20:01 sammypanda

@sammypanda really? I was having similar problems with discord having an infinite failed update loop, darn, there is something blocking these, when I tried safe mode with network on my pc discord worked and I bet Arnis would work as well.

Yeah, if you try each of the things I mentioned one by one (on their own) you could probably learn what exactly is causing it.

Then, depending on what exactly it is, it could be worked around in Arnis. Or you can change some setting to make things work a little better on your machine and maybe open a bug report with whatever software is causing it. I'd be curious to find out what it is too :)

sammypanda avatar Jan 16 '25 20:01 sammypanda

Thanks a lot for the great discussion here! Sadly I'm still not sure of what could be implemented to resolve this, but I won't forget about this and keep this issue open! :)

louis-e avatar Jan 21 '25 20:01 louis-e

GUYS I SOLVED IT!! FINALLY!! I was speaking with Discord safety team about the issue that was my Discord kept telling failed update loop, saying "the host remotely forced closed the connection" typa thing, so looked network based but my PC's network was fine, then they told me it could be security related things like firewall or anti-virus blocking, at last, I was asked to disable my Kaspersky self-defense setting, turn it off and delete a bunch of files and folders in a location, enable Kaspersky back again and try Discord and it worked first try! Now since with Arnis was giving similar vibes, I just now tried opening Arnis and guess what, worked like a charm! I'm so happy this problems kept making me go crazy, I'm sorry that at the end it was not really Arnis related but more a problem on my end, but thank you everyone for helping!

Yay! ^_^

@louis-e im not sure there is much you can do with anti-virus' blocking the network traffic to the program. Best i can think of is looking into what conditions/advice kaspersky has for programs to be considered safe/pass their checks (but that stuff is usually kept quiet afaik).

Hi everyone, I am not a technical person at all. I just want to import the maps into minecraft. I used Arnis before and it worked flawlessly but I am experiencing this issue right now. My map goes all white like everyone else's screenshots sent in this thread.

I know Github might not be the place to ask for tutorials but I couldn't find any community discord servers or subreddits to ask for help. I would really appreciate it if someone gives like a short tutorial on how to fix this issue because I honestly don't understand anything in this thread except there are some fixes that exist

are you using an anti virus? if so try disabling and see if it still happens

if you do this and show the logs, it'll make it easier to know what's happening. https://github.com/louis-e/arnis/issues/277#issuecomment-2593119532

How do i do that? I have no clue how to do it. I don't know how to compile apps aswell. I already have Git, Node.js and rust already setup in my device, if that helps.

vashist387 avatar May 20 '25 01:05 vashist387

there is a new version on arnis github with a whitemap fix

Lexxek avatar May 20 '25 09:05 Lexxek

Closing this issue now. We introduced some patches like switching from Mapbox to OpenStreetMap as the map provider. The change was implemented to avoid API token dependencies and improve reliability. Some other origins of the problem, e.g. antivirus programs blocking it, cannot be fixed by us. The fix will be included in the next release which will come very soon! :)
