Selecting buttons in admin interface returns you to the top of the screen

Open keelanfh opened this issue 2 years ago • 0 comments

Given that you have logged in as a content editor and have access to the Drupal interface, using a keyboard for navigations as a keyboard only user would do, tabbing through the content, when you get to a button and activate it with enter or space, you are navigated away from the button to the top of the screen. The individual items where this occurs are too numerous to mention them all, so some are given below, this is not a full list and the issue is present on other menus in the same areas of the screen as issues identified below.

Expected result

On tabbing to buttons, user pressing enter keyboard should remain on the element and be able to move forward from that point.

Observed behaviour

Tab to Edit menu, press enter, tab to Content press enter. Tab through the are six menus

  • Content,
  • Page Components,
  • Schedules Transitions,
  • Media,
  • Content Owners,
  • Alert Banner,

When using keyboard and tabbing to menu above Content tab and pressing enter or space the User is being navigated away from the area and up to the top of the page, keyboard users then have to tab forward to skip to main content to get back down to the position they were at. This is the same when tabbing to the other five menus as well. Under the six menus is the main content area with four sub-menus including

  • Content,
  • Moderated Content,
  • Approval Dashboard,
  • Needs review.

When using keyboard and tabbing to submenu above Content tab and pressing enter or space the User is being navigated away from the area and up to the top of the page, keyboard users then have to tab forward to skip to main content to get back down to the position they were at. This is the same when tabbing to the other three tabs as well.

  • Moderate Content
  • Approval Dashboard
  • Needs Review Also affected by the same outcome, entering into the content with a keyboard and tab key (see below items), trying to activate the buttons by pressing enter also results in the same outcome, user it navigated away from the area to the top of the screen. Under the above menus This affects Content - Filter, Reset, Edit, Apply to selected items Page Components – Filter, Reset, Edit Media – Filter, Reset, Edit Content Owners – Edit Alert Banners – Apply, Edit

WCAG reference

WCAG 2.1 - 2.4.3 Focus Order - focusable components receive focus in an order that preserves meaning and operability https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/focus-order.html See Example 3 Extract 3. A Web page implements modal dialogs via scripting. When the trigger button is activated, a dialog opens and focus is set to the first interactive element in the dialog. As long as the dialog is open, focus is limited to the elements of the dialog. When the dialog is dismissed, focus returns to the button or the element following the button.
