Controlnet IP-Adapter doesn't produce any mask

As described. See attached screenshot (censored). I create a mask on his face, select "use mask" but the resulted image (in the CN preview) is just black.

The issue happens with IP Adapter and XL model

It's not flux. It's XL

No one? Funny enough when I turn "use mask" off, it is actually using the mask??
