Problems with `CONFIG_DRM_SIMPLEDRM`

There are various problems when CONFIG_DRM_SIMPLEDRM is used instead of CONFIG_FB_SIMPLE. This includes later failures with the drm/msm driver (need to be confirmed and explored further) and lesser issues, such as as screen tearing during boot.
