Rumble not working on wireless xbox controller

Attempt to rumble gives a rumble not supported error but controller has rumble feature.

I acknowledge this may be an underling problem with the xpad driver. I had the same problem with the xboxdrv.

However driver testing mode works (causes rumble) on xboxdrv. When i started xboxdrv with the (i think) -R switch the controller triggers initiate rumble. This is a driver/controller testing mode but perhaps suggests that rumble is possible and that something else is buggy. I am not sure how to initiate controller test mode on xpad driver

I'm not sure if I cant't assist with this anytime soon as I don't have one of the wireless controllers :/
