A neat enhacment would be to automatically expire and archive past tickets.

Could be a nice feature indeed - but should also be careful with things like this as such "magic" can lead to very confused users. When they expect the ticket to be at a certain position and then it is not there where they expect. Somehow they need to get informed that a ticket moved.

You could make it an "opt-in" feature in Settings? If a user explicitly enables it, he can't be surprised...

In #188 I proposed the option to manually delete all past passes. I think this would be good to begin with, as it contains the logic to collect past passes and delete them, but without the need to introduce a periodic job. In my opinion they should be moved to trash where the user could verify that no pass gets deleted by accident and then delete them permanently.

To be honest, I think users would not be surprised of last events are not in the 'new' category anymore but moved to a 'past' ot 'archive' category. This could be useful setting too 'auto-archive past events'.
