[FEATURE] - Audio Crossfade
Songs come to a hard stop when they end. If listening to an album where songs transition into each other, the immersion is broken. :(
Making the next song instantly play when the previous song ends would be a good start. Having the ability to customize the crossfade time between songs could be even better.
@AyySorento What do you mean instantly play? I don't have any crossfade effect. I always found them useless XD
Instantly meaing no pause in between tracks. Most of the time, crossfade isn't really needed but depending on the music or album being listened to, it can make or break the experience. Every now and then, you'll find two songs that fade together perfectly that you didn't know could.
Below is a MEGA link from a phone recording which you can watch from the browser. If not, wait a bit longer for it to process:
- The first clip uses AIMP with a 0.1 second crossfade. 1 second is the default crossfade on many Audio/FLAC players. The sound is seamless between songs.
- The second clip is AIMP with all crossfade settings disabled. AIMP also has settings to fade music in and out. That is disabled as well. You can tell where there is a quick stop but the music picks right back up. The total pause is 00:00:002 seconds.
- The third clip is Simple AP. The pause is slightly more noticeable. The total pause is 00:00:010 seconds.

Might seem minuscule and pointless but again, it really does make or break the experience for music listeners depending on the music/album.
I mainly bring it up since I'm trying to find a new media player. Apps like Foobar and AIMP are overwhelming, clunky, and hard to manage. Found this on the Catppuccin theme page. Simple AP organizes music the way I want unlike other more simple audio players so I want to give it a proper shot. It just needs a few audio-specific features to make it a proper music player and it's a golden app in my eyes.
@AyySorento The thing you want is this?
And keep in mind it might take a while for a new update. I have uni exams next week 😅
Pretty much, yes. :) Doesn't need to be complex or anything. Could be implemented as basic as possible. Spotify has a Crossfade setting as well if you use Spotify at all.
Please, do take your time. I could wait months if needed. Uni comes first. I simply appreciate you being active on the project and willing to make changes.
