A decent logo for Lightning Network?
Hello,
We don't have a nice logo for Lightning Network, like we do for bitcoin. I think we should have one, and it should be standardised. In fact, things are so bad, that if you google "Bitcoin Lightning" and click on images, the logo of a s***coin called "Lightning Bitcoin (LBTC)" appears: https://twitter.com/lightningbtc - https://lbtc.io. Unfortunately, some people use that logo thinking that it's the real Bitcoin - Lightning Network one.
My opinion is that the logo should contain the original Bitcoin logo, and a lightning somewhere around it, so people understand that it's still bitcoin.
But Lightning is not just for Bitcoin, and I believe lnd still supports Litecoin.
IMHO, logos are for products, and standards rarely have a logos. What is the logo for HTML? I think a couple of logos have been used. It is perfectly normal to have a standard without a logo. This repo is modeled after RFCs, and they are plain text documents.
this is public domain https://github.com/shocknet/bitcoin-lightning-logo
This logo designed by the Shock people is great. I believe it is open-source and intended to be logos for the network itself:
Here's an idea. Use a lightning bolt icon. Lightning doesn't need a brand really. Mostly we should be trying to mask it even exists to users.
I think defining a logo for LN is important, not for branding purposes but for making people easier to spot the differences between Bitcoin/Bitcoin + LN.
My suggestion is gonna be suggesting the developer keep using the Bitcoin logo but attach a Lightning symbol that can be easily visible. So there are no strict rules, but something like best practice.
NACK on all of this. I'm okay with Lightning emojis and the logos provided by their respective implementation owners. There is no significant need to pretend there is an official Lightning network, or logo. There will be many implementations, multiple LNs and LN subnetworks. There is no target user for a specific LN logo that covers the concept alone. Unlike Bitcoin, there is no one true LN. The Internet doesn't have a logo. The Web doesnt have a logo. Just use icons.
Haha I see I already said this last year above...
A logo works in the meatspace for a merchant to signal their compatibility with the prevailing standard of bitcoin lightning wallets, not unlike visa merchants to visa card holders.
Incompatible networks applying lightning nomenclature to fast-shitcoin affinity scams would of course want a distinct logo.
