There should be an easier way to apply a dashboard filter to a single tile

Open PriPatel opened this issue 2 years ago • 8 comments

Right now, if I'm scrolling through my dashboard and want to apply a filter to a single chart, I have to:

  1. Scroll away from my chart to the filters section
  2. Apply a 'global' dashboard filter
  3. Go to the tiles tab
  4. Remember the chart name of the tile I want to filter and and deselect all the irrelevant charts.

It would be much easier if I could:

  1. Click on an icon in the chart tile to apply the filter
  2. The dashboard filters modal pops up.
  3. I choose a dimension and value for the chart
  4. There is no tiles tab
  5. I hit apply and the modal closes.
  6. Filter is applied to the single chart and I've retained my position in the dashboard

This feature becomes even more useful when you have added the same chart to your dashboard multiple times.

Hi Katie, right so this existing issue is similar to what we are requesting, but our user is actually looking to not having to navigate into an additional pop-up modal, but create + use the filters in the dashboard main page itself (similar to the parent dashboard filters, just directly under a chart tile). Do you mind adding those as notes in this existing issue (to clarify further, etc.)? Thanks!

Would like to add more details for what our team needs: Details: Scenario is there are many chart tiles a user created within a dashboard. And there are already dashboard-level filters created. But given the amount of dashboard filters can grow to a large set, and only certain filters is applicable to certain chart-tiles, and it can become complex and confusing to navigate, our users would like the ability to specify a set of filters (that can be selected as dropdown) at each chart-tile's level.

  1. These chart-tile level filters should be in addition to the dashboard level filters already selected.
  2. It should be at each of the chart-tile's level, displayed/positioned next to the chart-tile.
  3. Users should be able to choose from a dropdown list for the filter set (similar to dashboard filters, but at the chart-tile level).

Notes: This opened ticket/feature request is similar to what my team is requesting, but our user is actually looking to not having to navigate into an additional pop-up modal, but create + use the filters in the dashboard main page itself (similar to the parent dashboard filters, just directly under a chart tile).
