Buttons for volume and play/pause on headphones doesn't work

Volume Up/Down and Play/Pause buttons on headphones (wired as Android headphones) connected to the 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) audio port doesn't work. The buttons works just fine in Windows 10.

I am running Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon.

I have a Mateboox X Pro with an i7 CPU and Nvidia GeForce MX150 but I guess the buttons work the same on all Mateboox X Pro models.
