Tales of Phantasia crashes on open
https://nicoblog.org/psx-iso/tales-of-phantasia-english-patched/
i have all the bios files in system & i assume this is the place to post for retroarch mednafen_psx core?
Maybe its a problem with that specific translation. I have he translation made by Tales of Phantasia (Japan) [En by Gemini+Throughhim413 v1.0] and works ok.
You can not tell the integrity of a patched disc image, use a redump image and patch it with absolute zeros english translation patch.
It works perfectly fine on my end.
phantasia productions was the best localization, i guess this version is dead then =/
http://www.tales-cless.org/?page=tales and http://a0t.co/
are the same thing just done differently on what the translator thought was a "localization"
Absolute Zero is my personal recommendation for the translation though.
This version of Phantasian Production's patch should work: http://www.tales-cless.org/patches/ToP%20test%20fix.7z
It's a test one uploaded after pre-v1.1 without the boot logo. Patches that add custom boot logos tend to not work in the Mednafen core.
I can confirm that patch working as well. Luckily I found it a few weeks ago via google cache :D
The reason for this is prob: https://github.com/libretro/beetle-psx-libretro/issues/121
Myself, i think this level of accuracy is just too much. Can people even print ps1 cds in order to trip these dumb DRMs with romhacks or do they always have to use a modchip that disables them anyway?
That post says FF7 Retranslation Project (Beacause version?) isnt working? Can someone confirm this? My version boots ok. Crashes in some point of gameplay? I tested the Nekketsu Oyako english translation and dont even boot, is loaded as audio cd in the Bios.
I saw that on google when i searched for the same error.
http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,19709.msg278619.html#msg278619
this post and the posts below. It's possible it was fixed meanwhile i guess. I'm certain that Brigantine Grand Edition crashes because of that though, since i tried it myself.
how do u skip boot logo on retroarch? if that is what the problem is?
No that wasn't the problem. The problem is described on the first post of #121
Fortunately i found someone willing to make a user workaround. After you hardpatch the game you can use the utility here:
http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,23588.0.html
to regenerate the ECD on the file. This will prevent mednafen from exiting in a huff and the translation will work on hardware, if it worked otherwise.
This utility is not only for Brigantine Grand Edition. It's for any ps1 translation of any game that has this problem. Although be aware, the utility modifies the file inplace, it doesn't do backups or creates a new file. If you want that, copy the original before.
(it's possible that your 'logo' problem is not the same and so this utility might not fix it. Worth a try.f).
Hi,
That post on romhacking.net seems to be unavailable (removed or not available to regular users even though I'm a registered user). Could you post an alternative link for the application? I'm desperate to fix my Nekketsu Oyako english patched iso,
Thank you so much.
https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1264/
however, this utility is not for 'isos' (that is, files ending with .iso) but cue/bin (actually for the bin or first bin if there isn't only one).
It also doesn't backup! If you want to be cautious, you have to do it yourself.
Hi,
Thanks for the link. But it doesn't seem to fix anything for me. I tried patching my image with either "1" or "0" argument, but none of the patched image4s work on beetlepsx. And yes, I know it doesn't work with isos, I meant a BIN/CUE image.
The patched image will still wotrk with retroarch 1.0 and olde5r beetle psx core, so I guess the problem is the ECC. Don't know why isn't it solving the problem with my image. Anybody else has used this tool to patch the english patched nekketsu oyako image?
Any help will be appreciated.
Awakened's comment still works which fixes the game. I patched it against a redump.org verified dump.
I was talking about Nekketsu Oyako, though.
Does anyone still have a copy of the patched file shared by @Awakened0 ? The site it was originally on has gone down and the file isn't saved on wayback machine. The ECC fix utility doesn't help either unfortunately.
I kept the original just in case: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w1h6y5vay4n0mex/ToP%20test%20fix.7z?dl=0
Thank you so much! I might try and re-upload this somewhere if that's okay. I'm sure I won't be the only one who finds out they need it only to be met with a stream of dead links.
That'd probably be a good idea. I don't know if it'd ever end up on romhacking.net like it should be.
Thanks a lot for the backup on Dropbox !! <3
I was having a lot of trouble checking if my japanese image disc was fine or not ...
And since www.tales-cless.org is dead, I wasn't able to able to test other versions of the patch. >.<
Someone should upload the latest working version here : https://www.romhacking.net/translations/1787/
I tested the Nekketsu Oyako english translation and dont even boot, is loaded as audio cd in the Bios.
BTW, i was curious about this and it turns out that mednafen is stricter about the iso image and apparently a new (useless) readme file they added to the iso made it unreadable there (they took care to have the same size on the files they replaced but messed up there).
The translation also didn't work with the redump release, so i made a new patch using the translation files: http://www.romhacking.net/translations/4794/
Well, I'm running into similar issues. I've tried using a pre-patched .bin and .cue that I remember working on another emulator but Beetle HW just loads into the CD player. I've ripped my own physical copy of the game, after digging it out of storage, and tried patching it with the fixed xdelta patch for emulators found on dropbox put up by A0 and I get a error message. The one video I could find talked about an "ToP ISO Repair" which would correct the problem of the .bin file not being ripped correctly, but the Tales of Forums site is gone. I just have no clue what I need to do to play this in English. I'm about ready to give up.
Have you tried your luck with it in Duckstation? It's a really great up and comer in PS1 emulation and in very active development. And if you do have issues with it there, you could make an issue on it's repo and probably get a reply from the main dev pretty quickly.
Just tried out Duckstation. It behaves the same as Beetle for the pre-patched bin and cue files loading into the CD player, except this time it's all in Japanese. I guess I'll just have to give up since I can't find the ISO repair tool that Cless created.
Edit: Okay, I dug out my old HTPC and booted it up. The prepatched files work with ePSXe if it skips the boot logo. That's definitely the error that is fixed by the files from Dropbox. I just can't seem to rip this game so that xdelta will patch it! If I can't patch it then Retroarch cores won't play it. (SIGH)
I was having the game freeze right after naming the MC. I found something I got past it by turning off the voices in the options on the opening screen.
Hopes this helps someone
