Impossible to have RetroArch on both Wii U and vWii

Open garymohan opened this issue 5 years ago • 2 comments

Description

If you install RetroArch on both the Wii U and vWii (Virtual Wii), they conflict over the same sd:/retroarch folder.

Expected behavior

No conflict.

Actual behavior

Whichever RetroArch instance is run first gets to own the sd:/retroarch folder and the other one won't start.

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Rename sd:/retroarch if you already have that folder.
  2. Run RetroArch in vWii
  3. Exit vWii
  4. Run RetroArch in Wii U.

Bisect Results

This seems to be an in-built conflict coming from both Wii U and Wii RetroArch targeting the same SD folder.

Version/Commit

I imagine this has been an issue since Wii U RetroArch came into existence.

Environment information

Wii U and vWii

I think the answer to this for RetroArch on both the Wii U and Wii to be able to detect if the other operating system already has a claim on the sd:/retroarch folder. This probably requires a mechanism for the vWii RetroArch instance to detect that it's running in vWii (as opposed to a real Wii).

Yes, I found this one too when firsts getting into WiiU/vWii. Mildly annoying only as I would not have much cause to run vWii Retroarch (with the superior WiiU version to hand).

That said, it would be nice if there was a solution to this. I expect an option somewhere to define the folder each instance of Retroarch uses on the SD card would be the simple solution.
