from Where to download Comice OS

Hi @agam778 i need more time in my life to do that... i keep in my mind the idea to make a Debian based distro (maybe 64bit focused) with an excellent look and feel, and custom apps to match with exactly macOS layout.

Thank you, the emotion is appreciated :)

Why not Ubuntu based?

agam778 avatar Jul 23 '21 04:07 agam778

@agam778 because Debian has a XFCE desktop updated and stable to bring up a better experience. Why would you use Ubuntu instead of Debian?

libredeb avatar Jul 23 '21 14:07 libredeb

  1. Wait why will you use XFCE, Use KDE Plasma, its better
  2. Ubuntu is literally debian but with more apps support, community support and doesn't break itself when we update it like Debian does

@agam778 I'm not a QT developer... KDE look horrible to do all the things that I have in mind to do to shape of macOS to that desktop environment. In fact there is already a pearOS distro with KDE and it was not so successful. My skills are GTK+ and Vala.

In the other hand, Ubuntu in the last years has more bugs than Debian (in my experience). Is true, has more support for apps and better community, maybe. But I wish to offer a stable experience... in Raspberry Pi devices armbian (debian) is really customizable and stable (all that I need). Distros like Deepin, or Solus, offer a new experience... Make another Ubuntu based distro will be frowned upon by many users (the typical endless discussion).

What do you think about this topics?

what you mean "pearOS (...) was not so successful"? Maybe you have tried old pearOS versions. Please consider trying Catalina or Monterey.

Peace 🤘🏿

You don't finish it yet?

@alxb421 let me explain you... Since pearOS 8 (codename rocha) was discontinued, many have tried to replicate similar distros. Today there is a version with KDE out and about that has not been as successful as pearOS 8 (the original and the only one). I meant that.

@tiktakgames no, recently I switched my main job to another. Is taking me all my time to learn about new technologies for my new job. So in my free time, I'm stayed developing some apps (like Comice About and Comice Control Center) to fit more exactly the look and feel of latest versions of macOS.

libredeb avatar Jul 26 '21 13:07 libredeb

@agam778 I'm tried with Xubuntu 20.04 but I'm getting some issues. I recorded a video while I'm playing with it, take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXMf3ThM018

libredeb avatar Jul 26 '21 13:07 libredeb

Yea @libredeb even I saw the video

  1. There are many less animations in the xfce de and that doesn't look good.
  2. Also why don't you make it look like macOS Big Sur or Monterey
  3. The top bar isn't well adjusted and doesn't look good

agam778 avatar Jul 26 '21 15:07 agam778

@agam778 first I want to release a Catalina version because is the first approach. Even the app Comice Control Center is not finished yet... need more time or contributions to release and make them part of the distro.

What do you mean when say top bar isn't well adjusted I'm not sure. Regards!

libredeb avatar Jul 26 '21 17:07 libredeb

Well, Sorry I was busy somewhere so didn't respond earlier. With The top bar isn't well adjusted, I mean the placement of things isn't well adjusted (like the icons are little up, down etc.)

@libredeb

agam778 avatar Aug 17 '21 16:08 agam778

@agam778 I lost all the progress... I tried to make a livecd and broke the whole system. I have started again to create the distro.

PS: the icons on the top bar are fine, I don't see that they are misaligned.
