💡 Feature request: Download or export subscription list.

Open Coo-ops opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Browser cookies and site content are becoming more and more temporary, web developers and IT professionals can clear their browser data quite often. Some browsers don't even have storage at all (Tor).

Describe the feature you would like to be implemented

It would be nice to see a mechanism for downloading, exporting or syncing subscriptions so that they aren't lost forever.

Additionally, an export solution could enable Libreddit to be used on Tor more effectively, or simply enable a user to switch instance with their data in hand.

Describe alternatives you've considered

+1 I really want this feature. I use arkenfox firefox / librewolf which automatically deletes browser history , cookies and everything. Storing cookies in ur browser is always a bad idea. When will this feature get implemented ? I really want it.

You already can. Go to settings, and copy the URL from 'this link' at the bottom. That'll give you a link that you can use to export the settings you've got. You can remove the parts of the URL that you don't want/need. I think it could still be a useful feature to increase the size of the text, or make it a button so it's clearer.

@MrDisguised You can go to about:preferences#privacy, then under 'Cookies and Site Data' click 'manage' exceptions to allow certain sites to keep cookies. It's a bad idea to store cookies related to things like banking, email, and other sensitive information, but I don't see much of an issue with it for saving subscribed subreddits in a libre front end. If you really don't want to keep cookies, you can just bookmark the link from the settings.
