Automatic HEIC -> JPG conversion like on Windows

Hi everyone,

Congrats for this great project!

When setting iPhone settings > Photos > Automatic instead of Keep Originals, then, when copying with Windows, the HEIC are automatically converted into JPG, which is what I want.

However, on Ubuntu 22.04 with ifuse, even if Automatic is selected, I only see .heic files, and when copying them, they stay as .heic files which I don't want.

Question: with ifuse, how to mount an iPhone, such that, HEIC files will be automatically converted to JPEG files, exactly like on Windows?

Thank you in advance :)

This is not an issue with ifuse. If ifuse worked on Windows you would also only get heic files. ifuse gives direct file system access and if the files are stored as heic on the iPhone, that's what you get. On Windows the photo access works through PTP, and actually Linux also supports that. Check out gphoto2 or gThumb.
