iphone 15 restore failure

Open elekven-m opened this issue 10 months ago • 1 comments

Using idevicerestore, libimobiledevice, libtatsu, etc all freshly cloned and built on windows 11 using mingw64 gcc 14.2.0. Fails to flash iphone 15 series devices to 18.3.2. Does not work at all. Gets about half way through then fails to resolve gs.apple.com:` Sending Rose TSS request... Could not resolve host: gs.apple.com ERROR: Unable to send data to ASR. Sent 0 of 131072 bytes. Unable to send filesystem payload chunk, retrying... Could not resolve host: gs.apple.com.akadns.net Could not resolve host: gs.apple.com.v.aaplimg.com Could not resolve host: gs.apple.com Could not resolve host: gs.apple.com.akadns.net ERROR: Unable to send data to ASR. Sent 0 of 131072 bytes. Unable to send filesystem payload chunk, retrying... ERROR: Unable to send data to ASR. Sent 0 of 131072 bytes.

After some more failure lines idevicerestore fails out leaving the device in a half-flashed restore state. Also, and this may be a key to resolve this mystery, when this fails (every attempt), my wifi adapter (ASUS Wireless USB Nano adapter) ends up disabled in such a way that I must reboot my PC, reenabling the driver does not succeed. Although others have apparently seen this problem and have "resolved" it by reloading Apple x509 certificates, the instructions to do that are only for linux so I have not tried that under Windows, but I suspect there is a memory issue lurking which is causing overwrites and disrupting my wifi driver. These new ipsw files are 8.3GB+. Perhaps a long pointer needs to be long long, or previously freed memory block is being read or written, or a buffer overflow is happening.
