Ubuntu 16.04 + puppet5 installation problem

Hi all, I'm having a hard time installing rugged provider gem on a ubuntu16 with puppet5 client. I can install the deb package, but I need something that can be used by puppet provided ruby (2.4 vs 2.3 as provided by ubuntu). /opt/puppetlabs/puppet/bin/gem install does not work even after installing all the needed devel packages (cmake, gcc, ruby etc..), because it uses libjson that in turn needs symbols that c++ libs provided by puppet does not have. Any trick/suggestion that I can use to have rugged installed on ubuntu16 with puppet5? thanks.

This seems more Puppet related than Rugged related, I'm afraid. I can verify that you can gem install rugged in a fresh setup of Ubuntu 16.04, so it seems like there's something funky with the gem environment that Puppet provides. Have you tried reaching to them?

FWIW Rugged does not depend on libjson, so I'm not sure where's that dependency coming from.
