Issues with Weekly Notes

Open ohare93 opened this issue 2 years ago • 10 comments

I've been happily using weekly notes for the past week or so, but 2 issues have just started happening at the same time.

  1. Clicking the "Open Weekly Note" button no longer works. It instead said "Unable to create new file". Even though the file already exists.

    • Renaming my existing file and clicking the button again resulted in a new file. Then clicking away to another file and clicking the weekly button again showed the same error.
    • This happened on a Sunday, so the weekly was already made

  2. I have my Weekly template setup to GGGG-[W]WW which correctly shows today's date as 2022-W22. Yet when I click the button (after going through the problems of the above issue 1) I get the file 2022-W21

    • This happened on a Monday (today) so I expected a new file

Thanks for any help, and for the great add-on :+1:

Possibly helpful aspect to this issue: I now have it working again  So the one thing my screenshot of the setting above left out is that my original setting for the week are actually YYYY-MM-MMM/GGGG-[W]WW so that my Weekly documents will appear in the right monthly folder.

  • I changed it back to this afterwards, then made the new folder and files manually, and now I can press the Weekly button to open the current weekly page.
  • Though that does not explain why it did not work when the folder was removed from the format. Nor why it did not work the last 2 days. Or why it created W21

I'm having the same issue with creating W21 when it should be W22. @ohare93 you got that fixed?

Here's my configuration page: image and the resulting file: image

Version 0.0.17 of the plugin

It's Sunday, and now part 1 of my issue has started happening again

@tbarlow12 I ended up making the folder manually, removing my extension settings of the sub folder, then readding them, and that seemed to fix it somehow. But as I said, now it is happening again

Today (Monday W23/w24) when I remove the subfolder from the weekly format and press the Week button I get the file W22 created... Then pressing the button again gives me the same "Unable to create file" error.

Then I added the folder path back in and manually made the file W23 in the right place. Then the button works (opens the W23 page). So strange.

Unable to open existing weekly notes. Still an issue

Please have a look at the previously linked issues.

If I understood it correctly, that's not a bug but intended behavior. The week numbering system is different depending on the locale. Apparently, 'en-us' uses a strange week numbering system.

Since you used "WW" and "GGGG" (instead of "ww" and "gggg") in your template, I assume that you want to use the ISO-8601 numbering system instead. Therefore you need to override the locale in the calendar plugin settings. I used 'de', you may try 'en-uk'.

Installing Calendar seems to have fixed my issue. I did not have it installed when I raised this issue, nor did I change any settings upon installing it, I left it as "Same as System (gb)". Yet I had no issues yesterday (Sunday) or today

Makes sense now. The locale determines the week number. If only I could autoupdate all previous entries with the new week number. I use week numbers both as folder structure and as meta data (tags and text) for notes, so its v inconvenient to redo week numbers.
