Unable to change default format in settings

I'm running v0.14.6 of obsidan and 0.0.17 of periodic notes (both of which I think are latest). You can't modify the format of the daily or weekly notes in the settings if they are set at the default. If I go into the data.json file and change them there, that works. Once I've put a value in data.json, then I can modify it in the settings. But it appears that any of the format fields that have "" in the data.json are not editable.
