Daily folder of notes, instead of note

Open wwwald opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

Pretty new to Obsidian - so apologies if I overlook trivial solutions for this.

I have a somewhat unusual "daily notes" configuration - my date format is configured as YYYY/MM MMM/YYYY-MM-DD/HH[h]mm. So actually a daily folder with hour-stamped files beneath.

Instead of creating a new note all the time, I'd like the Calendar to take me to the latest existing note by default, or simply select the folder when clicking the date. I'm pretty sure that this is not configurable with the currently available settings.

How would I go about this? Any creative solutions?

One idea would be using the FolderNote plugin - then you would still have a "Daily" note in the format of YYYY/MM MMM/YYYY-MM-DD/YYYY-MM-DD. In the daily note, you can then use dataview to show a list of all the hourly notes for that particular day. The calendar could just point to the daily note and you can get to each hourly note in 2 clicks: (1.) click day, (2.) click timestamp from the daily note.

It would keep your setup mostly the same.

Thanks for that - I've explored this a little, getting to know FolderNote.

Now, my "Daily Notes" format above still links to the HH[h]MM file, so I can quickly create new notes. Calendar seems to use the same format, but I'd like it to rather link to the YYYY-MM-DD folder note. Is it possible to configure the daily note format separately for the Calendar plugin?
