bg and fg of a shell job control triggers export command and messes up GUI

Calcurse GUI is messed up once it is suspended with ctrl+Z and then foregrounded with fg command; it also triggers an export command (see screenshot below). It takes a Terminal's full screen toggle (F11) to restore the GUI.

I use Gnome terminal and Bash with calcurse 4.6.0.
