I was wondering if there was any update on this? Is it in progress or "upcoming"? We all appreciate how averse devs are to give dates, but upcoming is vague...

For the time being this won't be possible as SPM only supports code, no assets :( Hopefully this will change in September

In Xcode 15 you don't even get the iOS sims without downloading them after you open your project :|

I agree, it's extremely common to include a line in the readme explaining how to install with pods.
