It's not initializing the renderer correctly on your computer, I've never seen that before. Make sure your OpenGL drivers are up to date.

This works fine for me, if you got back a step the last one will disappear.

56k verts sounds excessive for this part but the problem could be that flexible hoses don't need to be optimized (at least outside of each subfile). Probably load the verts...
