Closing this for now. Reasons: * the add method turned out to be more difficult than expected * this issue is way too broad, and the discussion incited from it...
Agreed. No edges should have a numerical answer, perhaps even 0, inf, or NaN. No nodes at all should return None, or raise an error.

You mean to attach the coordinates to each node as a node attribute?
