Add grid xyx markers on canvas [feature]
Using the canvas can be a bit hit and miss when try to target and object. Would it be useful to show the xyz color axis lines in that equirectangular canvas. That way a user, has some short of reference. We can look in 3dview, but its kinda hard to have directional awareness.
There are multiple ways of placing lights.
You don't need to use the Panel. You can use g (grab) to move the lights around without the LightPanel if that helps.
The LightPanel left to right movement rotates the light left to right.
The LightPanel up to down movement, rotates the light top to bottom.
You could also use LightBrush by first selecting a light, then pressing and releasing "F" and finally click dragging on target object to align the light.
Thanks for the reply.
U was looking at one of your older videos, pre 2.8. that one showed marking lines in the horizontal middle, as well as 3 grid lines verticale. Inthink that is the same as the standalone app hdr studio has. Honestly, infind that giving more sense in terms of direction guides. If they showed slight colored tint. It would be even easier giving a user direction. Perhaps I van do a mockup for you
Here I found this old video of pre 2.8 Notice those lines, it's the same actually as what hdr studio app shows. I feel this makes it easier for a user for a sense of direction. Could this perhaps be an option otherwise. Perhaps something like "show grid marker overlay"
Here is the video. This is the same addon right? https://youtu.be/B5_Kq37ekOc?si=RsTDCXN62ChGMblm
That was when we had limited number if lights and they were put on a spare viewport with a camera looking down in orthographic mode. So the lines you see are viewport lines.
Now we have a custom rendered resizable panel.
What i didn't know is moving a light left to right, rotates the light in z axis with origin set to 0,0,0. There's no real moving left and right here. So how do you describe the lines? Same with moving a light up and down which rotates it in x axis.
It looks just like this hdrlightstudio. The axis show the grid lind. So moving it, shows on which axis it is in 3dview
That's also what those lines are I guess in the old gui. They matchup. Cant be coincidence

The lines correspond to x and y. Not so sure about the blue though
@schroef for the orientation lightstudio is in, this would be the axis colors. I'll implement something like this.
Yes, that was my idea indeed. I didn't find the time to make a mockup. You could always make this a option in then preferences.
My guess your gonna use goushader. Because that box can also be moved and scaled, so the these lines would need to be calculated. Guess having ir as an option is nice, not every one likes it.
What also would help, Is showing relationship lines. Lots of people hate them. But you light settings, by default place them at 30m. I would personally make a custom preset system. Which I'm actually already doing, but I ran into lots of issues trying to implement the code your using.
I think relationship lines help the user. Like Node Wrangler has, that one even shows a small version of the light shape near the object so you see how it's oriented. Thats perhaps a bit to much, but the line will help for sure.
