Upgrade is removing app but not re-installing

Open zerowebcorp opened this issue 3 years ago • 13 comments

Installed lens for all users. When I notice the popup that says there is an upgrade available, I click on the upgrade button. This removes the Lens from my system but then not install the latest version. I am seeing this error immediately that the file not found.

C:\Program Files\Lens is empty as well

Now, I had to come to this website and download the Lens package and then install it. The automated upgrade appears to be broken.

Lens on Windows 10

What is the lens version that you were using when you clicked the "update" button?

It was 4.2.1 to 4.2.2

Also, today I saw this popup

After clicking the update button, the next that I see is image

and my lens folder is wiped out

Now I am downloading the latest 4.2.3 from the website and installing it. This is the second release in the last week and second time that I am manually installing it. Kind of makes me not want to upgrade my Lens version ever again.

Had the same experience today. Windows 10 upgrading from 4.2.4 to 4.2.5.

And again same problem upgrading from 5.0.2 to 5.1.0.

And again upgrading from 5.1.0 to 5.1.1.

Full sequence:

  • update notification: image
  • request to modify the system (granted)
  • problem with shortcut: image
  • no app installed for Lens.lnk: image
  • Lens not installed: image

The fact that 5.0.0 is still listed is because of issue 3304

Note that I always opt to install Lens for all users. Would it work better if I installed only for my own user?

And again when trying to update from 5.1.1 to 5.1.3

m8ram avatar Jul 28 '21 08:07 m8ram

And again when upgrading to 5.2.2. Please provide a direct download link in the new version notification so we can download the new version and install manually.

I got this again just now, it keeps happening...

Also for note, I don't get prompted for the re-install. It says it'll restart and it does, but it never does any re-installing.

I also have it installed for All Users, and it'd need UAC prompting to do so.

I have reproduced this today. It doesn't seem to be an issue if Lens is installed for just one user. Will investigate some more.

Same problem upgrading to v5.2.4-latest.20210923.1. I have installed it just for my user this time will see if that works for the next upgrade.

In place upgrade to 5.2.5 worked when 5.2.4 was installed for my user only. So this confirms that the issue is related to installations "for all users".
