Use font instead of image sprite

Hello,

font awesome has a map marker , I think it could be used instead of the image sprite, allowing any color

I can do it if you want. Regards

How would that look like? I think there is no room for an icon n top of this, because there is a white (or transparent) dot in the center of this font map marker

I would like to have that too. At least for numbers. I would pretty much like a big map and then show POIs according to a relevance score. At the moment every poi is shown and the user can not see which one would fit him/her best!

I second this idea although realize it is not trivial, not even sure possible. I might look into it. Anyone else have any ideas on how to accomplish this. Would be awesome to have the entire color palette available for markers. I am sure there is a vector image of a map marker somewhere without a hole.
