(non-weapon) Item ideas

I'd like to start a thread for item ideas that aren't weapons. I'd like to avoid items that are unique to Metroid (morph ball, screw attack, etc) if at all possible. Things that show up in lots of games (like a grappling hook, for instance) are of course fair game. What's most important, I think, is that we come up with ideas that are new, unique, and cool. Keep in mind that we have integrated physics now, which I think opens up a lot of fun possibilities.

At any rate, here are my initial thoughts (none of which are particularly original, I'm afraid, but they're a start):

  • Turn the rocket boots into an item that has to be obtained (probably a while later into the game)
  • Multi-jump
  • Tractor Beam
  • Repulsor Beam
  • Grappling hook

Some of these would make others redundant, but here's just some food for thought.

Anti-gravity thingy (use it to boost your jumps and rocketry) Insect bait (place it somewhere and it attracts bugs to it) Insect repellant (temporarily keeps insectoid enemies away) Cloaking field (makes Xeon invisible at the cost of energy) Super shield (makes Xeon invulnerable for a short time)

The tractor/repulsor beam could be upgraded to a manipulator beam that would give you more freedom to move objects.

We could also make the player to use physics to solve puzzles, particualrly involving luring them places with insect bait.
