Unsent prompt disappears if I switch away on macOS Monterey and come back

This might just be a 'me' problem but on macOS Monterey when I switch to another window mid-prompt to look something up or c&p from somewhere for the prompt, when I pop back, the prompt as it was erases. This happens with all LLM interfaces, not specific to one. I try to remember this happens but my muscle memory keep forgetting and if I've written a long prompt I get sad. If this can be re-created, any way to make the unsent prompt persist?
