@ppiotrow I think we will be glad to receive a PR on this... especially if it is accompanied with good benchmarking and unit testing.
@richardstatin Your PR is fine but there are cases where the general strategy may not work well. Scanning a bitset is not free. One needs to write a benchmark.
I think we could drop support for Java 7 in main releases.
