Bug: Upcoming Meetings Disappearing from Menu Bar
macOS version
Sonoma 14.5
MeetingBar version
4.10.0
Installation source
AppStore
Calendars provider
Google Calendar
Bug description
There's no default display for MeetingBar and my meetings from Google Calendar are showing up intermittently. Upcoming events have shown and disappeared before the meeting occurred, and since there's no default display I cannot edit the preferences to adjust my sync to debug the issue. I also cannot try syncing Google Calendar -> iCalendar to see if the Google Sync is the issue. Currently MeetingBar is basically non-functional for me and I'm unable to update the configuration (without re-installing).
Reproduction steps
- Install MeetingBar
- Configure Google Calendar sync for events
- Events show and disappear (before meeting occurs)
- No Default display or menu open option
Expected behavior
Events in Google Calendar show in bar and do not disappear before the meeting occurs.

Hey there, @rover-wagnar! π I'm here to help you with any bugs, questions, or contributions. Let's squash those bugs together!
To resolve the issue of Google Calendar events intermittently disappearing from the MeetingBar app on macOS Sonoma 14.5, version 4.10.0, and to access the preferences to adjust your sync settings, follow these steps:
-
Open MeetingBar Preferences:
- Click on the MeetingBar icon in the macOS menu bar.
- Select "Preferences" from the dropdown menu. This will open the "MeetingBar Preferences" window.
-
Adjust Sync Settings:
- Navigate to the "Calendars" tab in the preferences window.
- Ensure that the correct calendars are selected to show events in the status bar.
- If you are using Google Calendar, you can switch between using the macOS Calendar and the Google Calendar API by selecting the appropriate option under "Calendars provider":
- "Switch to MacOS Calendar"
- "Switch to Google Calendar API"
- If needed, you can add a new calendar account by following the instructions provided in the preferences:
"preferences_calendars_add_account_modal" = "To add external calendars:\n1. Open the default calendar app\n2. Click 'Add Account' in the menu\n3. Choose and connect your account";
-
Refresh Sources:
- To manually refresh the calendar sources, click on the MeetingBar icon in the menu bar and select "Refresh sources" from the dropdown menu.
-
Check Calendar Access Permissions:
- Ensure that MeetingBar has the necessary permissions to access your calendar. If permissions were previously denied, you might see a message like:
"access_screen_access_denied_title" = "Oops! It looks like you have denied access to calendars."; - To grant access, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab > Calendars, and make sure MeetingBar is checked.
- Ensure that MeetingBar has the necessary permissions to access your calendar. If permissions were previously denied, you might see a message like:
Additionally, ensure that notifications for MeetingBar are enabled and set to an alert style in the macOS system settings, and that MeetingBar has the necessary permissions to access your calendars to avoid any issues with displaying Google Calendar events [[1]](https://github.com/leits/MeetingBar/blob/master/MeetingBar/Resources /Localization /en.lproj/Localizable.strings)[[2]](https://github.com/leits/MeetingBar/blob/master/MeetingBar/Resources /Localization /de.lproj/Localizable.strings)[[3]](https://github.com/leits/MeetingBar/blob/master/MeetingBar/Resources /Localization /nb-NO.lproj/Localizable.strings)[[4]](https://github.com/leits/MeetingBar/blob/master/MeetingBar/Resources /Localization /hr.lproj/Localizable.strings).

Hi @rover-wagnar, Thanks for the report, and sorry for the delay. This is strange, is this error still occurring for you?
Google Calendar is always getting out of sync for me, even though it shows that it is synced it doesn't bring any events. Every morning I need to redo the oAuth to get it back in sync.
I've been using MeetingBar for a long time, and this problem started happening to me very recently.
- Calendars tab in preferences are showing all my calendars and the correct one is selected.
- Meetings for yesterday are shown correctly, but today's meetings are not.
- I select "Refresh sources" and nothing changes.
If I redo the OAuth it gets back in sync again.
Same here, this started happening to me in the past couple weeks. I've needed to remove and reconnect my calendar daily.
My workaround that's been working so far is to setup my Google Calender with the MacOS calendar app and use the MacOS Calendar app as the datasource instead of the Google Calendar API.
