[feature request] remove unread count from Inbox tabs
it would be nice to also have the option to hide unread count from the tabs in the inbox
System: Mozilla/5.0 (X11
Hmm, interesting. I'm not sure about the solution, but I do think there is a problem to be solved here.
First, on your solution: I'd worry about hiding this. With your inbox split across these tabs, I think it is important to know when new mail is in one of those tabs instead of the primary tab. If I removed the badge or even just reduced it to "new", I fear you wouldn't realize new mail was in those tabs. You'd start opening them just to see if there was something new.
But what problem is being addressed here? Bold unread counts for content you probably don't care much about? Inbox had a solution for this: scheduled delivery for any category or bundled label. So, what if you could schedule when the tab was active or even visible? I could offer to hide the unread counts (or even the tab itself) until a certain time and day (e.g., show me my Promotions tab at 9am each morning...and my Social tab at 9am on Saturday each week). Not knowing when to hide it again, I would probably add some kind of button at the top of the tab that said, "Snooze again."
Thoughts?
Hi there, and thanks for the quick reply,
your analysis of the issue here is correct, the bold count/new label for unimportant mail is a visual distraction.
I like your suggestion to show/hide the indicator or even the tab itself based on a schedule, and have a snooze option.
I'll take a few days to think about it, as I am not sure what is the best way to handle this =)
Another option is to make the notification more mild, especially in dark mode.
