From zero to one, contributing to [project of choice]
Channel
Is this a "The [Fill in the Blank] Programmer" episode request
Topics First look codebase investigations, for various open source software, often times getting from zero to one is the hardest step in learning anything new, that includes existing codebases too. So often there are threads on forums by interested parties wanting to contribute to the FLOSS world, but getting started is too difficult a barrier to overcome creating a NIH situation because its easier to start something new than join something in motion. Just helping that initial step of navigating and investigating the tooling of how to contribute for various projects, perhaps submitting a pull request for some tiny issue as part of the process might inspire confidence in new contributors to a project.
Take into consideration a projects ability to cope with a sudden influx of new people. Either by reaching out, or choosing projects with larger communities who can absorb any impact.
I would want as much interaction from the primary maintainers as possible as the point is to speed up the transfer of information from zero to something, so help along the way from maintainers would improve this goal.
Length
I would think a livestream would be best suited.
