The `openbve` package does not exist in Debian

Open colons opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

Description

on your website, you say that an openbve package is available in debian, but only openbve-data is actually there

i don't know why this is, but the deb you distribute on that page also requires a newer version of the mono runtime than exists in debian buster, even in buster-backports, so im not sure what to do to work around it

Reproduction

install debian, and try to install an openbve package with apt

We unfortunately don't have control over the Debian repositories, and none of the 2- 3 people closely involved with the project are primarily Debian based.

The Debian offical package was 'abandoned many years ago & was relatively recently orphaned.

This essentially means we are reliant on finding a Debian developer who is willing to help / work with us to sort out the packaging etc. issues to reinstate the package.

To install the current version, you need the Mono official packages: https://www.mono-project.com/download/stable/#download-lin-debian

(IIRC everything actually works with 5.18 other than Traineditor2)

ah cool, yes, that works and dpkg doesn't hate me any more

it'd probably be worth updating the website to explain this if possible
