AR Transaction can not be paid!

What happened?
This transaction was created using "Copy to new" in the transaction of #8862 and is unpaid:
If I Update it, it shows as paid (unlike an actual paid invoice!):
However! If I bring this invoice up again, the payment information is missing, and the transaction looks exactly as it did in the first screen shot.
What should have happened?
Payments should actually be saved!
It turns out, when I now create a completely new transaction it isn't allowing me to pay it either. So, the first one I did is paid, but no others.
Neither page above shows a Save button. I don't know in what situations a save button appears, but when it does, and I use Save instead of Update, the payment information is saved. This is illogical. There should not be both an Update and a Save option, especially since the hover text doesn't give you any information about the difference between the two.
If, as I suspect, Update applies to the invoice, and Save to the payment information, there should be two sets of buttons---one above the payment information, for actions on the Transaction, and one below for actions on the Payments, but it's far better if one button applies all changes to the screen.

Actually, the buttons apply to all information in the screen. I'm wondering what steps you went through: the State in the top right part of the screen says "SAVED"; when I click "Copy to New", I end up with a transaction in "INITIAL" state. Did you do anything after clicking Copy To New?
As stated, I clicked on Update. The invoice is definitely saved. But when I add payment information and click on Update again, the payment is not saved.
I can pay it through the cash menu, but since I'm entering historical data, I wanted to do it all on one page.
There's a mismatch of expectations here: "Update" similar to "Recalculate"; "Save" is the only function which will Save the invoice or transaction. I'll consider if "Update" should be renamed to "Recalculate".
