Add underline and list formatting options to exercise editor
Desired behavior
The exercise editor should allow users to underline words, in addition to bold and italic. Additionally, it should allow the user to create bulleted or numbered lists.
Current behavior
The exercise editor does not have the option to underline words nor add lists either bulleted or numbered
Value add
Allows for slightly more advanced exercise questions and answers, by way of using more formatting techniques that are not very complex in nature and are fairly standard for basic text editors
Possible tradeoffs
While underline may be discouraged on the web because of similarities to links, it could certainly be helpful in emphasizing certain parts of exercise questions and answers, particularly in the humanities.
A potential approach to achieve this and https://github.com/learningequality/studio/issues/4325 would be to replace the editor with a newer more capable one.
Hello! I am interested in contributing to this issue. I am a 3rd year computer science undergrad, beginner in open source and I want to participate in GSOC 2024. Could you guide me on how do i get started? I have a strong hold on python and have some experience with django. Your response will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi @Aum8, thank you for your interest in the Kolibri ecosystem. This issue and our plan to resolve it and some other issues with the exercise editor require a bit more planning from our side. Anyways, it sounds like this issue may not be the best fit for you since this would involve work entirely on the frontend (Vue.js).
I recommend you head over to our Kolibri repo and take a look at backend labeled issues there-- step (3) in our contributing instructions
Hi! I want to work on this issue! I have looked around a bit, and the Vue2 Editor seems like a good candidate to proceed with! I would love to take up this issue if you feel the same is a suitable candidate.
Hi @EshaanAgg, I'm sorry but looking at @bjester's comment above, it seems that this needs some planning together with other exercise editor issues at first. I can't say when we can get to it.
Hi @bjester ,
I would love to work on this issue! I have already set up Kolibri Studio locally and explored the exercise editor.
Would you be able to assign this to me?
I plan to:
1️⃣ Add underline formatting (<u>text</u>) to the editor.
2️⃣ Add support for bulleted (•) and numbered (1.) lists.
3️⃣ Ensure it integrates smoothly with existing bold (<b>) and italic (<i>) features.
Let me know if there are any specific guidelines I should follow. Excited to contribute! 🚀
Thanks,
@yashodipmore
@yashodipmore I assigned you a separate issue. This particular issue isn't appropriate for external contributors at this time.
@bjester , Sir you are assigning me separate issue..as you told
@bjester assigned you to this issue: https://github.com/learningequality/studio/issues/4326 - if you can't keep track of which issues you are assigned to, why should we assign you to any more?
You have now posted on 14 separate issues that are either already assigned or otherwise not marked with the help-wanted label. Please don't waste our limited time and resources by engaging in this kind of spam, it doesn't help us, and it certainly is not helpful for you.
This issue is not available. You're welcome to find an unassigned 'help wanted' issue instead. There aren't many available issues right now so it's best to wait and keep an eye on the list. We label new ones on a weekly basis. I'd also invite you to have a look at the contributing guidelines (CONTRIBUTING.md) if you haven't seen them yet. Thank you.
Hi @rtibbles,
I sincerely apologize for the confusion and for posting on the issues that were either already assigned or not marked with the help-wanted label. I understand the importance of keeping track of assignments and contributing effectively without wasting time or resources.
I will make sure to review the contributing guidelines more carefully and focus only on issues that are properly labeled and unassigned moving forward. I truly appreciate your time and feedback, and I’ll be more careful with my approach in the future.
Thank you for your understanding.
Should be 💯 safely closed with the new editor implemented!
This is definitely implemented in the new editor, so we can certainly close this!
