Per @jamalex , this should maybe display a 'no data' message when there is no data. Screenshot attached. screen shot 2014-05-30 at 4 55 59 pm

Thoughts, @rtibbles? It might also be good to have the axes/tick labels moved to the bottom and left of the graph?
