Third Party Content Hosting (Hotlinking)
Instead of uploading to the reflector servers, there should be an option to use a third party source that would still play on the Odysse/LBRY media player. I believe it would be more economically sustainable. It would also help reduce buffering.
You can do that with thumbnails so it should be included for all media.
This would enhance the importance of the blockchain and lessen the importance of the content hosting system. I have talked with other non-core people of the project about support for other decentralized content hosting infracstructures such as IPFS. My stance would be that it'd be a great thing to support other decentralized options, since that is one of the core principles of LBRY.
Anyways, I don't think this is the right repository for this issue to be on, but I'm not sure which would be better for issues that would effect all parts of the network.

I find it to be a great idea to cut server costs. It would definitely make LBRY more decentralised as content would be hosted by many sources, not just the reflector servers.
I believe it would be more economically sustainable.
I don't understand your point. Uploading to a reflector server is entirely optional; you can create your claim, that is upload a video, without necessarily uploading it to a reflector server. In that case, the primary hosting is done not by the reflector server, but by yourself, by your own LBRY Desktop running in your system.
It costs nothing to upload to LBRY Inc. reflector servers, they provide that space for free, so why do you worry about it? It's free for you. If you don't want to upload to their reflector servers, and thus save them money, then just disable the upload to the reflectors in your configuration file.
Once at least one person downloads the video, then that person becomes a seeder, so at that point you can say that the reflector server is no longer necessary, as there is at least one seed.
The point about decentralization, if you want to have the content decentralized, then you need to set up seeding servers, and download content to seed. This would be the same as using IPFS, somebody needs to be running those servers, as they don't just magically appear out of nowhere; there is always an associated cost.

Using third party servers seems more convenient than seeding a file 24/7 with your IP address exposed to the world.
Uploading on the reflector servers is free for content creators but not for the company therefore I believe cutting server costs to be important for the future of LBRY. That should be considered as more people use Odysee.

No matter which server you use, the IP address will always be exposed to the Internet. It's how the Internet works.
You could just rent a VPS, download the LBRY software there, and seed from there. Would that work?

This shouldn't matter to you. As I said, the reflector servers are completely optional. If LBRY Inc. doesn't have more money, then they don't need to keep the reflector servers, in that case, you, the creator can seed yourself. LBRY would continue working, with or without reflector servers.
Also, Odysee is a separate business now; they run their own finances separately from LBRY Inc. so this is irrelevant.

Again, hotlinking is much more convenient than seeding a file 24/7. I know that Odysee is a separate business. I'm not sure if they use the same servers for hosting content as LBRY though. I thought they did. I believe anything that would make LBRY more decentralised should be considered.
