[bug] snap release 1.10.0 fails on Ubuntu 22.04 -- glibc versions

Open cadsDanny opened this issue 2 years ago • 10 comments

Port 1.10.0 fails to run after installation via snap

App does not display if started from gnome desktop.

from bash cli, "port" command returns error with output message indicating missing glibc.so.6, versions 2.29 and 2.30; this machine has glibc.so.6

Installing with "sudo dpkg -i port_1.10.0_amd64.deb," it works.

Same problem here.

Does the dpkg-command work as an update, or does it write over files etc?

Cheers

Thanks for reporting! We've had similar dependency issues with our linux packages in the past. I'll investigate this week

Same here too, PopOS 22.04, Port 1.10.0. Port seems to want glibc 2.29 & 2.30 and I have 2.35. If it can't be resolved is there a way to get my pier out of Port without starting it?

Thanks

if you'd like you can find it in ~/snap/port/common/.config/Port

This was my backup, or so I thought.. Doesn't seem to be any .bin or .run inside my planet folder. Any thoughts/fixes?

EDIT, running urbit next 'pier-path' creates .run in pier folder. So can now run ship but zuse 417 is blocked.

Ping. The Port Snap is still busted on Ubuntu 22.04 as per original issue reported Dec 10. Is there a revised Snap, or failing that a reliable workaround? Bad optics for Urbit. Hope we can get a fix soon.

@Urbposter as documented above you can get your pier out of ~/snap/port/common/.config/Port if you'd like you can download the .deb from https://github.com/urbit/port/releases/tag/v1.10.0 which should work. Otherwise you can run from the official binary in the terminal.

Something to note that hasn't been widely communicated yet is that the Urbit Foundation is officially dropping support for Port. So this will end up being a side project again. Thanks for being patient.

Didn't realize that Port is/was deprecated, officially. Thanks for the update. I'll give the other method a try. This confuses/saddens me though: https://urbit.org/grants/port-maintenance No grant? Withdrawn? Was there a new memo?

Urbposter avatar Jan 24 '23 22:01 Urbposter

That grant was awarded last year after a few months of maintenance by @latterbolden. This is the only official words on it right now: https://urbit.org/getting-started/desktop

Thank you! I'll check out Scene. Looks neat.
