avahi service stops responding requests after ntp changes time a few times

We use avahi as a library to advertise presence of media player in local network. Avahi thread doesn't hang, as indicated by strace, but it stops responding to queries, like if it is not configured. Problem could be made worse by changing local time frequently, e.g. by running watch -n 1 date -s "xxxxxx" on device. Changing local time happens all the time due to ntp client running.

I haven't isolated problem down to code lines, but will be happy to do so if provided some assistance.
