What can we do to make the firmware better?

Hello, and thank you a ton for all the work you, EFeru, and others have put into this project! I switched to using your fork of this project for a hovercart type project after driveability/max rpm overshoot issues with the base project. Your stock accelerator response, and the default mode configs work great 'out of the box'!
My quite young driver has trouble with how using the brake creates negative torque and will make them start going backwards when they try to slow down - I was curious if you or anyone you know of has played with implementing the double-tap reverse mode, or similar, that the EFeru's project has into your new control/input loop? I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if you have played with this already (or there's a way in current project I'm missing), and any tips you have on trying to implement if not would be great!

Brake input would create negative torque to drive RPM to zero. Double tap would negate accelerator input to accelerate in reverse, and brake input would still create torque to drive RPM to zero when in reverse mode/gear.
