[PT] “Etc.” and comma

In Portuguese, you suggest using a comma before “etc.”, but a quick search on the internet leads me to pages that suggest not using a comma.

It is true that both forms are accepted by the house styles of different organisations.

However, the VOLP (Vocabulário Ortográfico da Língua Portuguesa, published by the Academy of Letters, which can make official pronouncements about language use) recommends the form with the comma. Prescriptively, therefore, it is safer to keep the rule as it is.

@susanaboatto we may want to separate this sub-rule from other rules governing the use of etc. — that way users can at least disable it safely. (I wouldn't want to make it picky, but that's up to you.)
