Wall Shear Stress

Hello,

Is there a way to get wall shear stresses as a field in BF?

Cheers, Max

@MaxMarschall can you elaborate a little bit more on your case and what are you trying to do. There is none that I know of at this point but it can be in the future.

Hi @MaxMarschall sorry I missed this!

This would not be difficult, we would only need to bring in the wallShearStress function object. We are currently looking on the best way to bring the most useful OF function objects into maybe a single component if possible. Given that OF is currently going under major changes in the function object area this is still pending.

For now you can create any BF case you want, run it, get your converged results and then run the wallShearStress utility which will give you the shear stress in all wall boundaries.

I haven't used it much myself but OF will have a good help menu on the command.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards, Theodore.

Dear @mostaphaRoudsari and @TheodoreGalanos ,

As far as I understand, wall shear stresses can be used as an indicator of the wind directions near surfaces. Since the wind speeds on surfaces are 0, ParaView has its "SurfaceLIC" Display mode that turns the wall shear stresses into these amazing oil painting style visualizations.

I have managed to do this in OpenFoam which turned out to be quite simple in the end, but as a non-OpenFoam user it took me ages to figure out. It would be fantastic if this was accessible within the BF workflow.

Cheers, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Max
