fix(abode): clean and tidy up code and documentation

Effort to make the codebase more readable and update the documentation to make it more clear what this package is doing. Currently it's quite a lot of code with no documentation and inconsistent function api's. This will allow us to grow this package and start augmenting it with more hydration techniques in the future
