I am closing this issue as we are not going to invest in the Projector based IntelliJ anymore but we are shifting the the [Gateway based JetBrain IDEs](https://github.com/eclipse/che/issues/21412).

I am not sure what's your purpose @nickboldt but the [default editor is specified here](https://github.com/eclipse-che/che-operator/blob/main/api/v2/checluster_types.go#L93). These properties are not used anymore.

Let's put this one on hold. We may want to use the devfile library that should help generating a Devfile for a given repository.
