Environment
- Intel MacBook Air
- Installed from Brew
Occurrence timing
- When I was running macOS Catalina, there was no problem, but after upgrading to Monterey, the same problem occurred.
- When waking from sleep.
- When setting Background Music with earphones, headphones, etc. on.
Solution.
- After a certain amount of time, the problem disappears.
Problem
- When the problem occurs, the video also plays slowly due to the slow playback of audio.
same here! randomly audio gets choppy, distorted, crackles, lags, etc. when changing audio output, pausing audio then coming back, and logging in.
Still no solution?

[JP] 解決方法?
- オーディオMIDI設定でBackgroundMusicで指定しているデバイスのフォーマットを44,100Hzにする
- Background Music→USB Audio Deviceだと、USB Audio Deviceのフォーマットを44,100Hzにする
[EN by deepl] Solution?
- Set the format of the device specified in BackgroundMusic to 44,100Hz in the Audio MIDI settings.
- If Background Music→USB Audio Device, set the format of USB Audio Device to 44,100Hz.
I also have the same problem! changing that setting temporarily solves this problem, audio format doesn't matter ig. (switching from 44100Hz to 22050Hz and then back to 44100Hz solved the issue)
btw, Audio MIDI settings can opened by Spotlight.
Apple M4, Sequoia 15.6.1
For me what worked was to go into Privacy and Security > Microphone and toggle off and on the mic access to Background Music, then restart Background Music.
Does restarting Background Music worked ? Because when I tried to restart it after I toggled off the mic access it said that I need to enable it to start the application
