As mentioned above, the application installed no issue. It shows up in the Device list, but the icon never appears so am not able to adjust any volumes. It seems I'm not the only to have reported this issue as there's a few other posts in here about this with not recommendations/solutions.
same
Exactly my experience. Package installed and was prompted and I allowed mic access. Immediately the audio output was a completely inaudible robotic distortion (Zoom in this case). Other applications (Music/YouTube tested) won't output audio at all.
Switched backed to previous device and audio returned to normal. Icon never appears only able to switch in audio device settings.

Same, app installed and is set to default output device but icon never appears which prevents interaction with the app. I can see the process running via ps aux | grep 'Background Music' in a terminal but the GUI element isn't appearing.
I tried the same brew installation as well and can produce the same behavior. I think this is due to the app not supporting Apple Silicon chips? see https://github.com/kyleneideck/BackgroundMusic/issues/395.
If this is indeed the reason the app doesn’t work, I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how to run x86 apps on M-series chips. I'm not very familiar with how this process works, so any tips, alternatives, or instructions on running x86 applications on Apple Silicon would be incredibly helpful.
same issue for MacBook Pro M1Pro App not Launching. but on first install asked for Microphone permission and running in background and is also visible in settings as virtual audio device but no Menue bar icon to control anything ...
