Will this work on M1 with other apps?

Open pevsfreedom opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

I tried to install this on M1 to control Greenlight, an app to let me remote play xbox thru my laptop. Everything seemed to appear to look fine, and I could adjust the slider for the app, but the audio levels didn't change on any apps. Is this the intended function of this app, or is it only for supported apps? Or does it not work on M1? Any info is appreciated - thanks.

It should work on M1, yes. The volume sliders don't work for every app. It's a bit tedious, but you can usually add a workaround if there's a particular app you want to control: https://github.com/kyleneideck/BackgroundMusic/wiki/App-Volumes-Fixes

But since no apps are working for you, that means something's gone wrong. These links might help you narrow it down:

Thank you I'll look into that - admittedly I didn't attempt much troubleshooting.

I can't get it working on M1 Macbook either. I tried recording the output of VCV Rack many times over the last few days, with no luck. Using Quicktime Player screen recording.

I tried both via Rosetta and and natively, none of them worked. I tried using both BackgroundMusic and BackgroundMusic (UI Sounds), none of them worked either.

So I think I am giving up for now.

The project works pretty well on my M1 MacBook. I built BackgroundMusic directly from source code. Although the build failed for a few time because xcodebuild exited with code 65, it is now running on M1 macOS.
